Hi Suzanne,

One other thing. We have a wealth of tips and how-to's through our PR Insider newsletter. You can peruse the archives or subscribe by going to http://emsincorporated.com/pr-education/signup-for-pr-insider-newsletter/. One article in particular that I think can be of help is "6 Tips for Getting Booked as a Talk Radio Guest". You can find this article at http://emsincorporated.com/6-tips-booked-talk-radio-guest/.

Once again, I hope this helps! :)

Hi Suzanne,

Well, you can try that and you might get some results, but you really need a professional pitch sent to them. You can imagine how many press releases they get with so many people looking for media coverage. You want to make sure that you stand out above the rest. That's where a a good PR firm really helps.

A good PR firm has already established channels and can get the ear of a host and open a door. This gets you past the rest who are still knocking and gives you the opportunity to present the professional pitch. Now, there are two types of PR firms, retainer based and pay-for-performance. A retainer based firm charges you a monthly retainer fee and sees what they can get you. A pay-for-performance firm makes no money if you do not get the media coverage promised. While this sounds like a shameless plug, :), we are a pay-for-performance firm. My firm is one of the preeminent firms in the nation when dealing with talk radio and gets high results for our clients.

While you may already have this covered, when you're ready, if you are not working with someone you are comfortable with, send us your info and we can see how we can get you the coverage you want. Hope this helps!

This sounds great. I also have a background screening company and I was interested in advertising this way, I just haven't been sure how to go about it. Thanks.

Thanks for posting this on Linkedin. As I plan for media attention later on this year this article helped me to see outside of the box or like my husband says - there is no box.

Yes, I agree. I did what was spoken about and got to be on Check Around on Check TV (which is called something else now). Only 5min. with Gordie Tupper back in 1991 or 1992 in Victoria BC. So people did get to see my invention of 3D Chess and 3D Checkers. I should do it again some how.

This sound like a wonderfully marvelous way to promote. I have always wondered how it might be possible to be a guest speaker on a radio spot that would lend creditbility to my business of background screening, or to be able to submit an article to a newspaper commenting or "being the expert". This nudges me in a direction that I had not thought of. Thank you so much.
